Self-conception
1. Our major concern: justice.
No matter what color our skin, feathers or hair have, whether we have one, two or no gender, no matter what species we belong to – similar strong needs deserve similar strong consideration. Respect for everyone – that is what we’re all about.
And that is what many others are about as well. We are part of a movement that fights for freedom and justice; refuses to dominate others and deals critically with hierarchies. A movement that aims for a sustainable lifestyle – for us and for future generations.
2. Our focus here: Animal Justice
With Nandu we try to bring the perspective of animal justice into this consideration. Many of us are active in other groups and networks for a world without exploitation, starvation and racism, for an intact nature, equality, peace and other issues. We all come together and fight as “Nandu” for freedom from domination and violence especially towards animals. We are convinced that animals are no products and do not exist for human benefit. They are social individuals like us who have an interest in live of freedom. They are not something, but someone!
3. Our approach: Network for animal justice
In our work we focus on two priorities:
As an open network, Nandu connects activist with emancipatory claim that are close to the animal rights ideas. At the same time we try to involve people and groups that have so far not felt attracted to the animal rights movement: environmentalists, globalization critics, people with immigrant backgrounds, music bands, politician critics, referees …
Further, Nandu has its own campaigns and takes action wherever there are people finding themselves together as a group.
4. Our characteristics: integrating, politically, grass-root democratically and bubbly
Integrating: We believe in the power and the will of the people to transform and change themselves and their societies. Only by taking people seriously and inspire, we can achieve the vision of a fairer world. Therefore we attach importance to have respect for each other and to have a positive communication.
Politically: Nandu tries to inform and involve people. In addition to that, we think that pressure is needed to change the current political and economic structures. With Nandu we intend to launch a political protest and various economic pressure campaigns.
Grass-roots democratically: Our claim to be free from domination and hierarchies we want to fulfill ourselves. We organize ourselves grass-root democratically, open and transparent. All activists decide and create actions without any conditions on membership or club careers.
Bubbly: Last but not least it should be fun to get to know us, work with us or just hang out with us. Well, definitely more fun than to read dry statements of principals. :-)
